Dog Hit by Car & Left To Die: My Unexpected Animal Rescue Mission

By Whisker Wonders Kenya,

One chilly morning, as I was driving to work, something by the roadside caught my eye—a dog hit by a car, motionless and alone. At first, I drove past. But my conscience tugged at me. I reversed.

This dog was hit by a car and left for the dead. Slow down. Stop. Brake for a life.Ā

Unexpected Dog Rescue Mission

There he was, injured and frightened. Though a bit aggressive at first, his energy shifted the moment our eyes met. Somehow, I think he sensed I wasn’t a threat but a friend. A Good Samaritan. Someone who cared.

I wasn’t sure if he’d bite, but I prayed he wouldn’t hurt me. I quickly called my boss to let her know I’d be late because I was on an unexpected dog rescue mission.

I pulled out a mat I usually carry for emergencies and approached him gently. A kind passerby helped me lift him onto the mat and place him in my car boot.

Since I had to head to work, I called KSPCA. An hour later, their rescue team arrived and took over. The officers kept me updated, and their kindness gave me hope.

Too Injured to Survive

Sadly, the vet later confirmed that the dog had suffered a spinal injury and two broken hind legs. It was heartbreaking. He explained that the injuries were beyond healing, and the most humane option was euthanasia.

Despite the heartbreaking outcome, I still believe that morning rescue mattered. He wasn’t left to die alone on the roadside. He was seen. He was helped even if that help came too late to save his life.

If we choose to brake for animals, so many lives lost on the road could be saved.

🐾 Whisker Wonders Reflection

At Whisker Wonders, we believe that every life matters—human or animal. That morning wasn’t just a rescue; it was a reminder of the silent suffering so many animals face on our roads every day.

So next time you see an animal in distress, don’t just drive on. Slow down. Stop. Brake for a life.
Because kindness isn’t about grand gestures—it’s about seeing, caring, and choosing to act.

🚦 Brake for an animal. Save a life. Because their lives matter too.
